Insta360 Link 2
Large 1/2-inch sensor, 4K, AI tracking gimbal.

Our pick for dim rooms is the Insta360 Link 2, whose large 1/2-inch sensor gathers more light. The Logitech Brio 500 is the better value: its automatic light correction fixes most dim and backlit setups.
In a dim room, sensor size and light correction matter far more than 4K. The Insta360 Link 2 uses a 1/2-inch sensor, much larger than typical webcams. The Logitech Brio 500 uses RightLight 4 auto light correction. The C920x is fine in good light but struggles when it’s dim.

A bigger sensor collects more light per pixel, which means less grainy noise and more natural skin tones when your room is dim. The Link 2’s 1/2-inch sensor is much larger than typical webcams.
HDR also helps when a window sits behind you. The gimbal and gesture controls are extras you pay for; if you only sit still on calls, the Brio 500 is better value.
Most people look bad on calls because of lighting, and the Brio 500’s light correction brightens dim rooms and tames backlight automatically.
It stays at 1080p, which is all most video-call apps send anyway. The built-in shutter and USB-C cable are practical extras.
The C920x struggles in dim rooms more than the Brio 500, but it is sharp in good light. Adding an inexpensive lamp in front of you often helps more than any camera upgrade.
Put the light behind your screen and facing you, not behind you. If you can fix the lighting, this is the cheapest good result.
Before buying any camera, move your main light so it faces you. A window behind you will defeat even a good webcam.
Bigger sensors, such as the Link 2’s 1/2-inch, handle dim rooms best.
Automatic correction like Logitech RightLight 4 helps with dim and backlit desks.
A light facing you, slightly above eye level, beats any software fix.
4K helps recordings; most video-call apps send 1080p or less.
Among the webcams we cover, the Insta360 Link 2, thanks to its 1/2-inch sensor. The Logitech Brio 500 is the best value.
Not by itself. Sensor size and light correction matter more than resolution in a dim room.
Face a window or lamp, turn off bright lights behind you, and turn on your camera’s auto light correction or HDR.
It is fine in good light but struggles in dim rooms more than the Brio 500. Add a small light in front of you.
